Yesterday Christopher and Aiden celebrate their 6 month birthday! The boys turning 6 months old makes me feel like I am turning 40 or something. Where has time gone? It's funny because the first few nights home felt like they were as slow as can be but every day, week and month since has swept by! My boys are getting so big and so old! It will be kindergarten before I know it but in the meantime, I am going to live for each moment and enjoy every bit of every stage because it truly seems to be getting better and better with time.
So speaking of getting bigger, the boys had their six month check up's with Dr. Hoberman on Thursday. Grammie Pt. accompainied us in Mike's absense so I could have the extra set of hands that I am still looking to find on occassion. The boys did great and were even troopers through the shots. Later that evening was a different story with discomfort and high fevers but those are the details that we will choose to forget :) The doctor's visit went well. The Dr. was thrilled with their progress and said that developmentally they are at the 6 month stages that they should be and do not appear to be held back by their early arrival which was great news for Mike and I! Aiden weighed 14 pounds, 8 ounces and Chris weighed 13 pounds, 7 ounces. Somehow our scales at home lied because we had them both weighing a pound more about 2 weeks ago but that being the case, Mike and I are also playing by the same rules and figure it must also be safe to assume that we also weigh a few pounds less then the number that stares us in the face on our scales... after all, it's only fair, right? Chris is in the 5-10% for weight and Aiden is in the 25%. Chris is 24 inches long, putting him in the 20% and Aiden is 25 1/2 inches, putting him in 50% (I believe) but these comparisions are done in "adjusted time", comparing them with babies 6 weeks younger to take into consideration their early arrival again. I am not sure if this is something we should admit but their heads are in the 50th%! I think it is safe to say that this is a Daddy trait as Mike wears an XL size hat. Overall, it was a great visit!
Since the visit, we have taken the Dr.'s suggestions and started REAL food! By real food, we are no longer talking about rice cereal and oatmeal! We mean BANANAS!!! Yippee! Friday night Chris had his first taste of banana's. It was quite entertaining seeing him trying to figure out the texture. Aiden was early to bed so he missed out on Friday but got a sampling on Saturday and seemed to enjoy them. It wasn't long before we switched to prunes because poor Aiden was backed up... enough said! We also switched from rice to barley (nothing quite like the taste of cardboard... yes, I tried it!) with the hopes of getting things moving along, per the Dr.'s orders. Poor Aiden is still suffering but Chris is on a roll. Chris is also in LOVE with barley.
Another promotion in the big boy world was the introduction of a sippy cup! Our Dr. recommended that we begin to introduce the cup now so that they become familiar with it and arent in shock about having to make the switch in a few months. The boys are thrilled with the idea and LOVE their Red Sox sippy cups! Of course we also haven't shared the news about the Sox recent loses with them either for fear that they may be too ashamed to use their cups.
So aside from all of their progress and changes to their diet, we have had a good, busy end of the week. Thursday afternoon we spent some time with Grammie Pt and enjoyed the visit, despite the boys trip to the Dr,'s (shots... ughh!) Thursday night, I got out for a few hours and headed to a party with work friends at Lynn's house. It was great to get out and have some quiet time to myself and so nice to visit with my friends from work. Mike headed to his parents with the boys for a quick visit. The poor little tikes had a challenging night because of their shots but they did get to see Great Grammie Tag briefly.
Friday we had a wonderful visit with our friends Suzy, Sophie, April & Jenna. The boys loved all of the attention and felt like super stars because they had so many wonderful helpers to play with and entertain them. Later that afternoon we had our friends Caroline, Rob & Mathieu over for dinner. We had another great visit and enjoyed our time with them.
Saturday morning poor Aiden wasn't feeling well because of his constipation so we cancelled an appointment for professional 6 month photos and laid low with lots of TLC. Auntie Sarah and Uncle Jerry stopped over for a visit Saturday afternoon. It was great to see them and so nice to catch up!
Yesterday we went to church in the morning. After much debate, we left the boys in the nursery for the first time by themselves. For as much we Mike and I enjoy the baby noises they make, we weren't sure that everyone around us in church appreciated it as much :) They did surprisingly well. This was their first time being watched by someone other than relatives. They actually really enjoyed all of the excitement and loved watching all of the mobile kids that were around them. We were glad it was a success!
Following church we headed to Grammie/Dzaidz Pt.'s for the afternoon. My moms cousin Keith came over with his wife Magda and their baby Aedan. The babies were cute together and we got some great pics. Aedan is 10 weeks old so it was fun to hear what he is doing and remember back to when our boys were that little.
As you can see, it was a fun, busy week. It's no wonder why time flies!
This week our visitors were: Grammie/Dziadz Pt., Grammie/Grandpa Hopkins, GG Mimi, Great Grammie Tag, Auntie Laura/Tommy, Auntie Sarah/Jerry, Suzy/Sophie/Jenna/April, Caroline/Rob/Mathieu, Keith/Magda/Aedan.
