I have to admit that I have been caught in a “I don’t know where to start” mode for almost a week now. I LOVE the holidays and all of the preparations this year I just can get myself to a point where I feel organized and on top of everything. I start and fail to finish at least 10 projects a day. Seriously. I think I may have a problem as I walk in circles making myself dizzy. So, time to get on track, starting this week. Okay, maybe next week since this week is already solidly booked out.
We had a great day with Ashley on Thursday and spent the afternoon working on putting up some Christmas decorations. The boys idea of decorating is taking down and playing with anything and everything new. That’s my idea of additional clean up but worth it since it keeps them happy and occupied. So far, only two casualties, thankfully material things, not A & C! I spend the night doing a billion Christmas returns and purchases and came home ready to wrap but realizing that it was crazy to start at 9:30 at night.
Friday was our catch up/cleaning day. I went on a cleaning frenzy while the boys learned to help sort and match their socks, clean a toilet and vacuum in all of the corners and cracks. They actually liked helping with the laundry and I think they are at a perfect age although as you might guess, they fought over who got to make the next match. Grammie Pt. and Dziadzu came after work and Aiden and Chris got right to work showing off all of their new and newly created “tricks.” They loved trying to maneuver hand stands, summer saults and everything in between. They were loving all of the attention and Mike and I snuck out for the night to enjoy a delicious meal and some good company at the Covill’s house. Sorry Joe, I should have taken a picture so you could “make it” onto the blog!
Yesterday was our official tree cutting day. We packed up and headed to Markowski Farm early to cut down our first family tree. I loved that we got to ride in a horse drawn carriage though the field to find our “perfect” tree. This year we picked a chubby one but we love it since we’re a bit chubby too.
The boys got a kick out of seeing the horses and were on a little sugar high from the candy canes they received and scoffed down at 9 am. I loved the Christmas spirit as the carriage driver sang Christmas carols with any willing participant. I highly recommend it for any Christmas crack heads like myself. What’s not to love?
The tree decorating quickly lost its pizazz after about 5 minutes. Aiden would only hang ornaments that he loved which amounted to all of the breakables and Chris was more into hiding them in random spots throughout the house than actually hanging them on the tree. Oh and I should mention that Aiden found a candy train that could be at least a decade old and decided to have a nibble of a Hershey kiss. Let’s hope he’s learned his lesson as the chocolate inside the wrapper was no longer resembling chocolate.
(Notice the boys choice of tools. Chris picked out his pretend box cutter to cut down the tree and Aiden chose his circular saw. They were the envy of all of the kids around)
Our tree is up and ready for Santa!
After wrapping up some chores and decorating, we had Mamie and Grandpa Hopkins and Grammie and Dziadzu Pt over for a quick dinner before heading to see the Valley Brook live nativity. Again, another most see Christmas event that is free and open to the public. They do an amazing job and get a fantastic turn out. It was chilly but so fun to be out with our families and so fun to see friends there! Aiden and Chris were thrilled to see their buddies Emme and Elliot and quickly got to burning off some energy, running around in the pitch black field.
Today we had our friends Adam and Gina over for dinner and some early holiday festivities. They spoiled us as always and we all enjoyed decorating some gingerbread houses. The candy taste tests were a hit!
Now I’m off to get a few chores done before bed. Never a shortage of things to keep me busy but I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if it were any other way.
