Baby it’s cold inside….

Apparently Gerber would like to move this pregnancy along even more than I would on some days.  A few weeks back I received an email from them detailing what to expect for changes with the baby in the coming week and they were two weeks ahead of my due date.  Today I received one for week 36 {they’re now 4 weeks ahead}…. If they have it their way, this little man could be full term and arriving next week at this rate!  I’ll be ready… but just not in one week :)

This week has started out with a bang.  Two solid days of rain, cooler temps and no heat in our house.  I wouldn’t have guessed that they would turn off our heat when we’re only 6 months behind in our payments.  Just kidding!  Since this past weekend we have noticed a gas like smell in our house.  We turned out furnace off on Saturday and turned it back on, hoping to make it to Monday and the smell seemed to disappear.  Bright and early Monday I called for service but wasn’t able to get anything scheduled until Thursday.  Unfortunately our furnace decided not to cooperate and we came home to a house full of stink yesterday evening.  I headed out to enjoy a quiet movie with my friends Gina and Leeanne and upon arriving home, walked into a house that smelled worse than before and the furnace had been off for several hours.  It is amazing how quickly you “adjust” to the smell when you’re in the house and don’t leave.  Being as the boys were asleep and it was 10 pm, we weren’t sure how safe we felt spending the night with the odor but also weren’t sure what our choices were.  The carbon monoxide detectors weren’t buzzing and there wasn’t any smoke so we decided to make it an “artic fieldtrip” and we hunkered down for the evening with multiple layers on and every blanket piled high.  Thankfully we have electric heat in our playroom so we cranked the heat in the basement {didn’t want to sleep down there because of the odor and proximity to the furnace}, opened the door to the upstairs and hoped some heat would rise….. And it did… just a little….. We woke up to a brisk 50 something degree house, followed by a shower with no heat and a cold day of rain outside.  We moved our appointment up to today and ended up with a hefty bill and not much resolve.  Its hard to believe that you need two “annual” tune ups in a matter of 3 months.  Did we have our sucker shirts on?  Unfortunately we are now in need of a chimney repair person as the service rep found a major crack in the clay liner in our chimney.  I guess I’m not the only thing getting old around here these days.  I spent my afternoon calling around only to find that apparently the referrals that we received are too busy to do that kind of work.   Humm… maybe I should get into that line of work.  The saga is to be continued  as we try to get someone out ASAP and in the meantime think about selling our third child on the black market to pay for it :)

Outside of our stinky house, yesterday was a good day.   I was so grateful to Mamie for taking the boys for the afternoon so that I could head to my OB check up alone…. such a nice luxury!  The boys had a blast and enjoyed meeting Grandpa for lunch and everything checked out just fine for me.  I’m measuring as I should, have gained another 1 1/2 pounds, blood pressure is in check and now it’s just the waiting game until my next appointment in two weeks.  Here’s a look at our family of four with our new four year olds and this momma’s big belly! Oh furnace fiascos. They always seem to end up costing way too much.
You're looking great Beth!
