Giggles

There is nothing greater than the misunderstandings of children.  The innocence and frustration when they can’t get their point across.  This week in all of his innocence, Chris complimented me on a summer sundress that I was wearing.  He then proceeded to tell me that I was beautiful and he asked if my pretty blue dress was a “Sammy Down?”  Not sure I heard him right, I made him repeat it… again and again and again.  He was understandably frustrated. Mike and Aiden were in the same room at the time so I turned to them and asked if they knew what he meant.  Aiden replies “yeah, a sammy down.”  Of course!  I then put two and two together. Two days earlier I was wearing another sundress with which he complimented me on and I informed him that it was a hand me down from Auntie Laura {the best sister ever for sharing all of her wonderful giveaways with this pathetic, style less Momma!}  Sammy down, hand me down.. potato, pototo.

While Chris is taking after his good ol Momma {and I mean old now that I am 32!}, creating his own words, Aiden is having to prove his identity.  When dropping the boys off for school this morning, Aiden’s classroom aid informed me that the boys threw her for a loop yesterday when they wore matching shoes to school.  Back in September, I purchased four pairs of school shoes for the boys, two pairs of two different styles. It was my thought that the boys could have one pair each.  They typically like the same or similar things so I was keeping it simple.  They had other plans and decided that Chris would keep the two brown pairs and Aiden the two white and blue.  Apparently their shoes became their signature items at school. As the year has progressed, their feet along with everything else has grown.  Recently I ordered 4 different styles of shoes and let the boys decide which they wanted as replacements.  They both fell in love with the same brown pair so without much thought, we kept two pairs of the same brown shoes.  This week Aiden and Chris have been wearing their summer uniforms and asked if they could wear their new shoes, and heck, why not?!?  So off they went without much thought.  On our end anyways.  Apparently, once in the classroom, Aiden’s aid noticed his shoes and asked him if he was really Aiden since Chris usually wears the brown shoes.  She then made him “prove” he was Aiden by telling her how he helps Mommy with Jacob {something she had asked both boys previously to know that Aiden is in charge of the diaper genie}. Thankfully he answered correctly and was allowed to stay.  And to think, this is only the beginning!

I on the other hand am keeping things humorous for Mike and I.  Since before we were married, I started making Mike’s lunches for him for work as a way to save money.  We’ve got our “go to” lunch items and every once in a while I mix it up with some leftovers for lunch.  Well lucky Mike got quite the lunch 2 weeks ago.  I packed his bag, grabbing an apple and what I thought to be left over chicken pot pie in a tupperware container.  When lunch time neared, Mike opened his bag to find an apple and a container with 8 cream cheese dessert squares.  Oops.  The best part – he ate them!  He said he figured they were healthy or something since I always try to pack him healthier choices.  Tired?  I think so….. funny… absolutely!  Worth it?…. 100%!

While Jake’s sense of humor has developed yet, the little man has a killer smile that I LOVE!  He’s getting so big and has almost outgrown his newborn clothes.  A bittersweet moment for me as I come to the realization that this may be the last time these clothes are worn by my kiddos.  I’m still not sure who gave them all permission to grow up so quickly? Certainly not Mike or I!  Jake had his first official “sleep through the night” success last night sleeping 10 pm – 5 am.  While it was a huge treat, naturally I would be greeted by my lovely four year old at 3 am for a hug and to be tucked in.  Nothing worth complaining about and a huge success on Jake’s part.  I’ll take it, even if it only lasts for one night!

This week the boys had a Mamie day yesterday.  They went shopping with her and came home with new furry stuffed friends and also went to the Scoop in Granville, MA.  If you’re in the area and haven’t been, its worth checking out. Delicious ice cream and a fun little area with animals.  The boys had a blast and Jake and I stayed home so I could catch up on some work.  Two thumbs up from all!

I had my six week follow up appointment today and all went well.  Tomorrow we’re off to the pediatrician's for an appointment for Mr. Jake.  My first attempt at the Dr.’s with all three boys.  Fingers crossed that it’s uneventful!

Sammy downs! That's fabulous. I love those days when I'm trying to figure out what the heck they mean. Don't you always feel like you're amazing when you finally do?
That shoe story is so funny! OMG! Classic. Good thing they haven't started "trading places" yet.
