Sometimes it takes the perspective of a child to keep your work light.
Take for instance, our bathroom. I was gung hoe about painting both bathrooms, our kitchen, dining room and living room {See my blog post for a week ago with my high hopes….}. Mike despises painting so I would be going solo. I am a slow, messy painter but I figured I could convince myself it would be fun and get into a groove. Easy enough, right? Well, I jumped into our bathroom project first. Why not start small? Well, the walls are a mess. A total mess. As in I seriously considered ripping them all out and starting over, convinced it would be quicker. I should note that the room was previously wallpapered. When we moved in, we removed the wallpaper and attempted to sheetrock and spackle as needed. These walls read amateur all over them. I chose a dark brown color. I loved it at the time. We have a gold, yes gold shower {with brown speckles… and no they can’t be cleaned off!} and we kept the vanity to save some money. I felt my choices were limited for coordinating tones and I was pleased with the color scheme at the time. Well, the color has worn off and the room now seems too dark and well, it’s been 7 years. Fair enough, right? Well, those walls are a mess. Lots of wallpaper gunk that we never fully removed and the room was never given 100%. So today I am slowly moving forward. It’s fair to say one inch at a time! Here are some “in progress shots…”
My dear Christopher came into the room last week after I had started a small bit of spackle on the walls. He took one look around and exclaimed “Mom, this room looks great! I didn’t know you decorated it for our party as well!” He excitedly skipped out of the room and as I thanked him, I realized that he thought my spackle job was clouds painted just for his Disney Planes themed birthday party. Oh I love the mind of a five year old!
Speaking of five year olds, I found some fascinating table graffiti that no one wanted to admit to. I may have to hire a detective for this one…..
