Five years ago, I had yet to know the value of hearing the word “Mommy” said to ME. I was five hours away from contractions and the beginning of parenthood but I had no idea. I was in Boston for the night, visiting our friends Kym and Ross, not having any clue that it would be my last late night… well of that sort anyway!
In just a few short hours, my two best big boys will wake up as brand new five year olds, ready to take on the world, or so they believe. These incredible little men gave me a brand new title, Mommy and for that I will be forever grateful.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a Hopkins birthday celebration without a bit of snow. Despite the flurry of flakes, we were thrilled to have our family close to celebrate this special landmark; one half of a decade for two of our handsome lads.
We had a blast. As Chris said “I never knew a party could be this much fun” while Aiden remarked “Mommy, you sure do know how to throw a party.”
Thanks to my mother in law, Carol and my sister, Laura for taking some pictures, I do have a few shots of the party décor.
The board on the left held photos of the boys each year at their birthday. We used the painted plane clips that A & C made.
I made “Cloud Nine Meringue” as favors. Note to self, Meringue takes 3 hours PER batch to bake. Do not start the project at 8 pm when you’ve doubled the recipe and don’t have enough room in the oven for just one batch…..
I love chalk boards and recently discovered chalk markers. Oh what fun it is to decorate with chalk markers.
I kept the cake simple this year. It was near 20 pounds with a chocolate and vanilla later and pounds of frosting!
I made several “cloud” puff balls and strung this cute little garland in between for a whimsical but fun look.
Here’s a look at partying, Jake style! Find décor, open mouth and insert. Enough said.
And of course, a party wouldn’t be a party without our fabulous guests. Love you all so much! oxo
