8.1.14

Isn’t it the pits when you start something, get distracted and come back only to find out that you’re starting over from square one?!?  Well I’ve attempted to “start” this post three times now, each time completely forgetting what I had shared in my previously lost draft so here we go…

Can you believe that it’s August 1st?  One {hopefully short but pleasant} month of summer left!  Aiden and Chris received welcome letters from their newly assigned kindergarten teachers.  Official grade schoolers and to make matters worse, the letter started “welcome class of 2027!”  I’m certain that year will come in the blink of an eye and not so sure I’m ready for it!

Since we’ve been back from vacation, we’ve been doing some exploring. We met our friends at the slash park in West Hartford, checked out a new trail, hit up the playground, made a trip to Belchertown and navigated the waterfalls at Enders State Forest. We’re also enjoying the simple things that summer is all about.  Reading on the porch, donuts, ice cream, garden fresh veggies & sprinklers.  I have found that busy is best.  We’re still working around two naps for Jake on most days but the big boys love to be on the go.  It keeps them out of trouble if that’s possible.  Hours pass for Aiden as he chases butterflies and bugs in the backyard and Christopher can’t resist a kicking around a soccer ball or looking for a team mate to play baseball.

Aiden and Chris are so much fun.  They converse and argue like little adults…. for better and for worse.  They love to correct you at any and every given opportunity because clearly they know ALL.  They are boys and competitors through and through.  They get their kicks out of winning.  They love to dress up and often ask to play pretend {school, super heros, army, animals}.  They can’t resist a card game of Uno.  They would spend all day in the woods and could subside on sweet treats day in and day out {we are still weaning them from the double vacation sugar high!}  This week more then ever, I notice them taking pride in their roles as Jake’s big brothers while out in public… The prideful Mommy moments you need to witness every once in a while.  They LOVE to tease.  Pranks, potty words, jokes, you name it… it never gets old. Double trouble indeed.  And this is the life of an almost 5 1/2 year old x two.

Jacob has become a danger ranger.  He loves to explore but without fear {found him on the top tier of Chris’s bunk, dancing on the kitchen table and on the counter surfing for trouble this week}.  He climbs like a monkey but with no grace and coordination.  He gives 110% to keep up with his big brothers and is 15 months going on five.  He’s sweet and cuddly yet feisty and oh so strong willed.  He’s a toddler who knows what he wants and is not willing to settle for anything less.  For better or for worse, he’s learning to defend himself.  He never ever tires of reading Animal Sounds and Peak A Who.  He’s successful at communication through his combination of sign language, a few spoken words and lots and lots of pointing and grunting.   He is a little boy of routine who takes two naps and sleeps far better than anyone else in our house ever has.  He is growing and all too quickly, just ask any one of us!
