The pace of a weekend with big expectations was quickly slowed down as I shared a sinus/cold with Jake and Mike. Lucky Aiden and Chris were spared from our boring, low key, activity less weekend as Grammie and Dziadzu picked them up on Saturday for a sleepover… the boys ULTIMATE treat! Soccer was cancelled because of the rain and we cozied up, relaxed and had a pity party for ourselves as Aiden and Chris had the time of their lives. Sleepovers are as good as vacations in their mind and for good reason. They had an action packed, fun filled weekend with the endless attention that they both desired. They come home happy as Christmas morning and with so many stories to tell. They filled pumpkin leaf bags, went bike riding, played games, watched movies, did some chores and earned some money, visited with Auntie Laura and got some cousin lovin from baby Andrew and soaked up all of their special time.
I mustered up the energy to start our kitchen overhaul on Saturday afternoon. Taking far long than I anticipated and taking over 24 hours to dry, Mike, Jake and I were kicked us out of our kitchen all weekend {maybe not such a bad thing as we ordered take out… yum!}. Our kitchen looked like a tornado swept through as I cleaned and cleared out all of our lower drawers and cabinets… at the same time. It was a sight to be seen and I think Jake was the only one enjoying it as he was convinced that I took out all of my kitchen tools and gadgets and lined them up for his entertainment. After all, isn’t that what every good mother does?!?
{Here is a kitchen “before” picture and a glimpse at the beginnings of my major mess}
Our weeks have been on repeat as we seem to finally have found our groove. Jake is loving running around outside like a wild man while the big boys are at school and he basks in every minute of his alone time. We ventured out with some friends last week to check out our library sing along program and while Jake was more interested in running up and down the library ramp than he was in singing, It was nice to get out and participate in an organized program.
Monday Mike worked from home and I took advantage of having all three kids home and went to the pediatrician's for flu shots across the board. It was class as usual for me last night and tonight I was the lucky one who watched Aiden and Chris’s soccer practice while Mike held down the fort at home with Jake. The kiddos on team light blue are coming around and starting to understand the concept of team sports and the objectives of soccer. Don’t get me wrong, you give any one of them more than 20 seconds unattended and they are off twirling in circles or catching bugs, but cute none the less and a treat to witness.
As for my story of the week, I want to remember my dear Christopher this week and his kind heart. You may or may not be aware but bus drive appreciation day is Thursday. I am truly grateful for the boys bus driver, especially after playing personal taxi driver for the past two years myself so without thought, we decided we wanted to do something special. In trying to involve the boys in the process I asked them to both pay attention to their drive last week and see if there was anything that she did regularly or enjoyed while they were on the bus {assuming Dunkin Donuts or a breakfast drink of some sort would be the likely response.} Friday, Chris jumped off the bus and overjoyed said “Mom, I know something the bus driver likes….. “
Curious, I asked “what?” ‘'
His reply “monster hats and cowboy pants.”
After all, isn’t that’s on most drivers wish lists? I asked him how he knew this and he explained that a little girl got on the bus wearing a winter hat that looked like a monster and cowboy pants and the bus driver told her that she looked great.
Luckily for our driver, we settled on a fall floral arrangement and a pumpkin and she is worth so much more. Tis the season to appreciate those that serve so selflessly everyday!
Ps - this is how Jake teases the poor cat….
And how he now “directs traffic” taking it upon himself to grab your hand and direct you were he feels you need to be.
This boy has a mind of his own… and he isn’t afraid to use it!
