This week we made up for lost time and lost play dates over the past few weeks. We were thrilled to be "back in the game!"
On Thursday, our friend Ashley joined us for the day while her Mommy went back to work for the first time. We couldn't have asked for a better day and a better match for our family. The boys love baby Ashley and wanted to be involved in everything. It was fun to encourage them to teach Ashley and tell her what they were doing, holding, playing etc. and I think it gave them a good sense of purpose and certainly kept Ashley entertained. Ashley is such a sweet, fun, loving little girl who fit in wonderfully. We are thrilled to be spending every Thursday with her and the boys are counting down the days until her return. The boys woke up from their naps chanting "more baby Ashley." She is a hit to say the least!
Friday we were excited to spend some time at Grammie and Dziadzu's and enjoyed a fun visit with Kym and baby Connor. What a cutie Connor is. He was a great sport and was in the middle of all of the action but happy as can be. I enjoyed Mommy time with Kym and look forward to the times when we can have the kiddos together. We headed home for a later bed time but a great visit all around!
Yesterday we couldn't help but enjoy some fresh air and sunshine. We headed out early to run an errand and stopped the Windsor Locks Canal one our way home. We were surprised to learn that half of the canal is closed until July because of a pair of nesting bald eagles. They don't want to disturb them and expect that they will be flying by July. The boys loved seeing the water, climbing on the large rocks and watching all of the dogs. We headed home for some more outdoor play and had plans to head to a play zone after naps but A & C were enjoying themselves so much that we stayed in for a quiet afternoon. We went for a walk in their red wagon to the center of town and had several people turning the heads wondering if we had lost our mind I think. We got many smiles and grins and the boys loved every minute out it. We took a break half way and Aiden was as happy as a clam collecting rocks in his bucket while Chris tried to push the wagon himself. On the way home, we stopped at the conservation area behind our house and let the boys throw all of their collected rocks into the water. What a hit! We managed to make it home with no wet feet! We headed inside for some dinner and fun in the kitchen. Aiden and Chris love to help bake so we made some special treats for our trip to Grammie & Dziadzu's today. Mike and I have a new addiction. TV…. Two dangerous little letters. We have been watching and loving the first season of The Wire and look forward to watching an episode every night after the boys go to bed. It's not a good thing…. The bathrooms haven't learned to clean themselves and the vacuum can't seem to work without me behind it pushing…. Darn it!
This morning Aiden and Chris started in the two year old room at church. They loved the new toys, big room and big kids. Mike and I enjoyed meeting some new parents and kids and look forward to seeing how the boys do in the coming weeks.
This afternoon we are headed to Grammie & Dziadzu's and are looking forward to seeing GG Mimi, Auntie Laura, Eric and Hoagie there as well! What a fun weekend and fun week.
Funny stories of the week:
- I tend to call the kids "honey" and usually don't even realize it. Last night I got a new nickname from Christopher. I am now "Mommy Honey."
- A & C are learning their last and middle names. They apparently think that they come from a family of bunnies with the last name of "Hopper." They also think their middle names are "Grandpa" and "Dziadzu" because I tried to explain to them who they were named after.
- Aiden is Mr. Fashion. This morning I came out wearing a short sleeved sweater with a brown and blue argyle print. His first response "Utt-Ohh." When I asked him what was wrong he showed me that I was missing my sleeves. He then proceeded to point to the brown and tell me it was dirt, followed by "Momma change." Hum…. The next thing I know he'll have me nominated for the show "What Not to Wear!"
