This year we started a new tradition. Every day since the beginning of December, the boys have been able to choose a wrapped Christmas book to read before bedtime. They LOVE opening gifts and love reading just as much so it has brought much excitement. We have a wonderful collection of Christmas books because I am a holiday freak so it has been a great way to enjoy all of our stories. Some are repeats, different versions and different pictures. One of the books we’ve read often is the Christmas Story. It’s important to be reminded about what Christmas is all about and A & C get excited to hear that we celebrate Jesus’s birthday on Christmas. This morning Chris and Aiden took on their own version of the Christmas story using their Little People nativity set and various others. Theirs version must be new age because Mary had a friend who was an Indian, a wise man who was a farmer and she rode to Nazareth on a dog. I think we’ll keep working on reading that story every night.
Kid’s understandings at this age are quite entertaining. Mamie came for the day with A & C yesterday and as she was leaving she told them that she would see them on Christmas Eve at her house. Chris quickly remarked that she needed to come to his house. We corrected him about what our plans were and he got all upset. Thankfully Daddy (thinking like an almost 3 year old) realized that Chris was concerned that if he wasn’t at his house, he would miss Santa. Thank goodness for Daddy!
Monday we went to visit Grandma Tess for Christmas. We also got to see her daughter, Dee and Mike’s cousin Chuck. We had a fun visit and I loved hearing the stories that they had to tell.
Yesterday was a work/Mamie day and today we are excited to have our friends baby Ashley and Calvin over to decorate gingerbread men/ladies and sugar cookies.
It’s official – we have our first pre-school application submitted for a magnet school in Hartford. I applied last night and felt very old doing so. What a reality check that my time spent at home with A & C is limited and quickly slipping by. The first application is in with one more application due for the Suffield preschool in March but we’re applying to keep our options open and see what the new year brings. For today, I am going to enjoy their innocence and time at home with me! Merry almost Christmas everyone!
