Fresh Air

Despite the rain, we’ve spent as much time as we could sneak in, outside getting some fresh air this week. After all, 30 and 40 degrees doesn’t feel so cold when you’re just coming out of the winter chill.  photo

My ultimate joy is in listening to some of the conversations that occur lately between Aiden and Chris.  They are truly such little men.  Men with minds, strong wills and definitive thoughts of their own.  I often find their conversations much more entertaining than those of the adults around me.  Aiden plays the role of the Mom, providing gentle reminders like “Chrissy, you shouldn’t be doing that….” while Chris provides the bit of spark, enticing Aiden to join his efforts with “Hey Aidey, ya wanna do something funny…”  Both, waiting for a reaction in all that they do.  While the arguments with a four year old may be harder to win, the calmer nature and more cooperative efforts certainly even it out.  Aiden is a bit more studious with more attention to detail, better listening skills and a pursuit of knowledge.  Chris is the comedian, always making goofy faces, trying to make someone around his laugh, sneaking around and always contriving some sort of a plan in his mind.  They ask no less than a million questions a day and correct you for at least 500 of your responses.

As we enter week 33, I am beginning to feel a bit more at ease.  There is something calming about making it to week 34 as we have a better idea of what to expect with Aiden and Chris being 6 weeks early.  I have no early signs of labor but my gut tells me that he’ll be introducing himself before week 40.  We are ready.  Is it safe to say that?  The room is ready, clothes are all washed, bottles sterilized and baby book started.  I still have a few more things to purchase, my bag to pack and a few “Daddy” fix it projects but we’re getting excited.  We borrowed the Bernstein Bears “Birds and the Bees” book from the library yesterday and it’s been a hit, being read several times before bed.  The boys are curious.  They ask a lot of questions.  Good questions.  And well, if they can’t ask us, then how will they learn?  We’ve had some open, honest conversations about babies and where they come from and while I try to be as vague as possible, they work so hard to get to the source.   This is going to be an interesting ride but we’re all onboard together and so anxious to see how our family feels as a party of five.

We’ve had a great weekend!  Mike worked yesterday and the boys and I stayed busy with some chores, a walk to the library and a few little projects.  We had an early morning meet before church today and were so thankful to Mamie and Grandpa for taking Aiden and Chris for the morning so we could attend.  We met up for lunch and to “recollect” our little men and were so thrilled to see Auntie Sarah, Rose and Ivy who were also at Mamie and Grandpa’s.  The girls are adorable and so fun to watch.  I also loved seeing Sarah and was thrilled to get to catch up.  The boys had a blast and enjoyed their time visiting as well and we headed home to grab some dinner before heading out to our small group.

We’re so excited that March has arrived, with daylight savings, spring and lots of fresh air just around the corner!
