Adjustments

Despite the fact that tomorrow feels like it should be Friday, we’ve had a great week.  Jake and I have been adjusting to having our days alone.  Last week we went to our first Mommy and Me gathering at our church.  We had a blast and it was great to see him playing the role of a little social bug instead of the little man in the shadow of his big brothers. We’ve been taking advantage of running errands, just the two of us and it’s no surprise that my grocery bill has reduced without all of the “extra’s” that find their way into our cart when I’ve got all three in tow.  Jake is a trooper but isn’t too sure about wanting to ride in the front of the shopping carts.  He’s a boy who doesn’t want to be contained.  As a matter of fact, he has grown to hate his stroller and makes every effort to wiggle out as quickly as possible.

My little guy and I have also been frequenting the play areas in the mall and the local playgrounds.  Today Jake had  a blast meeting up with one of my best friends Kym and her little girl, Caitlyn.  If you didn’t know any better you could mistake them for twins.  Seriously.  Five weeks apart and sharing a love for ball, trash, climbing and the same daring stunts.  They are both true blondes, weighing exactly the same and just about the same height. If I do say so myself, they are beyond adorable together.  Today they shared their first kiss.   Several kisses, complete with smooching sounds and all.  God bless Kym who was so on the ball and documented it all.  A picture we’ll share and enjoy as they grow older together. (And yes, Jake has his first shiner…. Poor tike tripped and tell while carrying a plastic house and landed on the mouse popping out of the chimney… true story!)

This morning I explained “hump day” as Chris asked how many more days until the weekend.  Having previously reported being bored in school, Chris jumped off the bus today noting that he “LOVED school!”  Music to my ears.  Aiden was eager to show off his second award certificate that he earned for going above and beyond to do his best work in school.  We are beaming with pride and so very pleased to see their enthusiasm for learning.  The stories and attempts to one up each other continue and today Chris informed us that his class is going on a fieldtrip to the Statue of Liberty.  {That’s one heck of a kindergarten adventure if you ask me} while Aiden shared that a weird kid at school was licking cooties off the table and eating food from the trash on purpose.  They are my sons indeed and I truly do get excited to see them and hear about their school day adventures.  It’s safe to say that the feeling is mutual for Jake as he furiously clapped and waived when the bus rounded the corner for drop off this afternoon.

Yesterday Aiden and Chris started soccer.  The practice went well and scrimmages and games start this weekend.  The teams are co-ed and  beyond adorable to watch.  They’ve both got classmates/friends who are on their team and energy burned it always a good thing.  Chris jumped out of the car all excited to see a friend that he had met at lunch, Calvin who was also on his soccer team.  They were instant best friends…. for the day at least!

Hi Karen!

Chris has a great imagination for sure! Both kiddos came home claiming to be "bored" the first week but I think they have mastered repeating things we've mentioned to their benefit :) I think it's too early to tell but I am sure I will hear about it if they're feeling smart!
We miss you guys! oxo
