So I was sick of seeing the tired old picture of me coming up as the first picture so here is an update and a family picture from yesterday afternoon. I am holding Aiden and Mike is hold Christopher. The boys are doing great. They amaze Mike and I more and more everyday with how strong they are. They are fighters for sure. Since they arrived last Monday, they have done a 180. Yesterday they came off of their IV's which were being used to fight an infection (due to Aidens high temp and Christopher not breathing when he was born) and also to give them fluids since they were just learning to suck and swallow, never mind feed. We weren't sure what the infection was - the IV's were more preventative due to how sick they were given the fact that everything went so smoothly throughout the entire pregnancy. Since the IV's were out, they were able to wear onesies for the first time! It is the small things that keep us going so this was a huge step. They looked like little men all dressed up and they seemed to be enjoying showing off their new outfits. They were little wiggle worms, wanting to get their blankets off to show the world how spiffy they looked :)
Our bigger news came yesterday afternoon when we were told that the boys would be moved anytime to the CCN (Continuing Care Nursery). This is HUGE! Unfortunately CCN was full and didn't have room for the boys so they are going to be able to hang out in the NICU a bit longer but the relief of knowing that we are still progressing and quickly is awesome! I think Mike and I both slept a little easier last night after hearing that news. The boys both gained weight yesterday and are doing better and better with bottle and breast feeding. Aiden was moved to a "big boy bed" as once the nurses excitedly told us. He is no longer in the enclosed box and is now in an open bassinette. Once Christopher gains weight and is back up to 4 pounds, he will be next to get a "big boy bed." The only downside of today is that both boys had to go back on Bili lites because their jaundice is back but not as bad as it was previously. We are willing to deal with this minor setback as they are making SO many other wonderful advances!
This morning I got a call from the NICU Nurse Coordinator and of course panicked after hearing her introduction. Thankfully she was calling with good news and wanted to let Mike and I know that the boys were being moved to a private room in the NICU. We now have what we liked to call our "suite." It is a separate room for Aiden and Christopher and it gives us great privacy and time to bond with the boys. The boys were so excited about their new room and as such, they spent most of the morning wide eyed, taking in their surroundings and wearing themselves out. They were totally excited about their new space and so were we! We asked how long they thought we might be in our special suite and were told that we would be one of the last to move to CCN since we are happy with our new space and also because it is rare for two spots to open up next to one another in CCN. So, we hope to be able to stay in our special rooms until the boys come home. It was another great day and we will look forward to sending another update as things progress. Thank you everyone for your love, support, calls, cards and prayers! We feel awfully special and can't wait to have the boys meet everyone!
