Here is a picture what the "boxes" they had been living in looked like. This is also a picture of Aiden in his favorite pose - all hands up or touch down pose as Mike like to say and a shot of Aiden in the red tomato hat and Christopher in the orange pumpkin hat.. too cute!
Our big news from yesterday was that Christopher is now in a big boy bed too! He is not quite 4 pounds but he has been able to maintain and regulate his own body temp so he moved up in the world yesterday and we are hoping this can be a permanent move! When Mike and I walked into their room yesterday, we couldn't stop laughing. All of the nurses seem to have a crush on the boys and decked them out in a tomato and pumpkin hat. Of course Mike thought they were dressed up like a strawberry and carrot but it was too cute and we had to laugh knowing that one day there will be consequences when they find out the fun that we had!
The boys are both still on their bili lites and unfortunately their levels are still going up. They mentioned yesterday that it may be related to breast feeding but followed that by saying there was nothing I could do to help and it was just something that needed to run its course, but not anything to stop breast feeding them over. Phew! The both gained a few grams yesterday but the nurses said they had some concern that they are gaining really slowly. Neither of the boys was quite back to their birth weight and yesterday was their 10th day birthday (is there such a thing??? We celebrate everything these days!!!) We are still working on getting them to feed more on the bottle and breast. It is a catch 22 because they have to feed on their own without feeding tubes around the clock but yet we don't want to make them work too hard and burn too many calories. The nurse mentioned yesterday that they may supplement the milk with HMF, human milk fortifier which contains additional vitamins and minerals and may help to give them a boost with their weight gain... Let's just say they are far from being sumo wrestlers! Mike and I were laughing yesterday when were peaking in on another baby in the NICU, wondering how big he was, guessing maybe 10 pounds, only to find out he only weighs 8 pounds. I guess our vision is a bit skewed due to the chicken legs on our little guys.
