The common theme continues as time continues to pass WAY too quickly. The boys are 7 weeks old tomorrow and will be 2 months old next week - yikes!
Backing up to last week, the boys had follow up eye exams on Thursday morning. The poor things - like poking and prodding them on Wednesday wasn't enough. The exams were in Springfield which was about a 40 minute drive and as usual, they were great and both fell asleep in the car. Mike and I have both commented that we can totally appreciate how some parents drive for the simple pleasure of having a few minutes of peace and quiet as most children enjoy the car and usually struggle to keep their eyes open. Once we arrived at the doctors, the boys were given eye drops and we had to wait 15 minutes after the drops to be examined. The Dr. gave the boys a numbing med and used a barbaric looking metal clamp to hold there eyes open as he performed the exams. Thankfully, everything checked out alright and we won't have to go back for that kind of fun for another year. Speaking of which - they already had me schedule our appointment for next year... how many people have calendars that go into April of 2010? Not me - we are taking it one day at a time these days :)
We had a great weekend. Saturday was quiet and a good day to catch up. Mike and I managed to have our first "date" night ALONE to celebrate his birthday. Yes, you heard me right - it was just Mike and I. Dziadz and Grammie Pt. were gracious enough to watch the boys for a few hours while we tried out a new restaurant in town. Well, "new" to Mike and I but not new to Suffield. It felt great to get out, take a shower, get ready and feel human again and Mike and I really enjoyed some quiet conversation.
Today was Mike's 29th Birthday. The boys and I went for a walk this morning despite the chilly wind. I figured it would be nice to give Mike an hour of peace and quiet on his birthday and it felt great to get outside and get some fresh air. I can not wait until the weather is perfect everyday! Later this afternoon we had our families over for a small get together. The boys LOVED being held every minute of the day today and we are hoping they will sleep well tonight although with all of the cuddling today, they managed to get plenty of shut eye in the warmth of some of their favorite peoples arms.
The highlight of the day was when Aiden finally learned to roll over. We aren't convinced that it wasn't a lucky occurrence but he did it 3 times in a row and we finally caught the third attempt on video before he got super frustrated with us. We aren't quite sure whether we should be rooting for our 7 week old son to be rolling over already as we know that if he has really mastered this task, we will have a whole new level of concern on our hands :)
