New this week...

Sorry for the delay in posting an update.  Somehow time is slipping away and the days are consumed by feeding, changing, playing and more feeding before the cycle starts over again.  Things are going really well.  The boys continue to make us laugh everyday and are getting more and more responsive. It is hard to believe that they turned 5 weeks old on Monday!  Again, I celebrated on their behalf with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream justifying that there must be some influence on the flavor of their milk on their birthday!

I had my five week follow up appointment with my OB GYN yesterday morning.  Grandma Hopkins came over to watch the boys while I was gone and she said things went really well.  It was great to have the extra set of hands so that I didn't have to bring 3 of us to my appointment.  Everything went fine for me.  I got a clean bill of health.  My blood pressure is back down to normal and I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight - yeah! Now I just have to wait patiently and exercise religiously to have my skin go back to its original position :)

At my appointment I asked about the testing that they had done on the placenta after the boys were born.  The Dr. confirmed that everything came back normal and the testing also confirmed that the boys are indeed identical.  At this point with the weight difference of around 1 pound now, it is easy to tell them apart but it will be interesting to see what happens as time goes by.  I also inquired about whether I would be more likely to have pre/post-clampsia and HELLP syndrome in future pregnancies and was happy to hear that while there are no guarantees, the Dr. said that it is more likely to occur in a first pregnancy and is also more likely to happen with multiples.  Good news again!

Mike leaves for California tomorrow and will be gone until Friday.  This will be his first time being away from the boys and our first time on our own so it should be interesting.  Grandpa Pt/Dziadz is coming to stay with us while Mike is gone so it will be great to have an extra set of hands.

Did you know that is it almost $12,000 for labor and delivery charges these days?  I got my bill from insurance (and thankfully I have insurance) and the worst part about it all is that of those charges, $5,500 were for the room charge.  I could have taken a luxurious vacation for a month for that amount, never mind a two night stay with crappy food in a hospital with a windows view of the lovely construction that is going on at Baystate!  It was interesting to compare these charges with the charges from my moms labor and delivery for me.  My mom saves everything and put the costs in my baby book and in 1981, the charge was $675 and was all inclusive.  I can't imagine what it will be when the boys become dads!
