The big 1-8... Months that is!

No captions necessary after reading my blog below :)

(And no, he didn't eat both ears of corn - his brother shared the half eaten ones with him!)

Monday marked Aiden and Chris's 18 month birthday! Yippee - we have two toddling toddlers! Along with the birthday celebration came the dreaded 18 month pediatrician's appointment. Uggh!

Grammie Pt came to spend some time with us yesterday and was my fantastic, much needed extra set of hands at the Dr.'s. I truly don't know how parents do it on their own, so THANK YOU Grammie! I was hoping to report huge weight gains and healthy progress but I am sad to say we weren't that lucky. Aiden gained 8 ounces in the last 3 months and is up to 20 pounds and 3 ounces... woo hoo, we hit the big 20 lb mark. He is 35 inches long and is in the 78% for height! Christopher continues to be the little man and is a whopping 18 pounds, 13 ounces. That is where the uggh part comes in. Christopher's weight gain was less than we had hoped for and unfortunately not satisfactory to the doctor. As he continues to get older but not larger, she is concerned about making sure that his organ and brain development is appropriate and like any parent, the idea now concerns us even more... So, I called this morning and will be setting up an appointment to see the feeding specialists at Hartford Children's Hospital with the hopes that they may have some fantastic suggestions. Chris did grow a bit and is 33 inches long but still not on the charts. He is our mini-me!

The great news is that both Chris and Aiden are totally up to speed with all other milestones set for 18 month olds! Yippee! We knew they were smart, active little cookies but it was good to be able to hear from the Dr. that they are exactly where they should be. We are also trying a new prescription that is supposed to increase the boys appetite. The only problem with the medication is that A & C don't really seem to know how to recognize and fix the feeling of "hunger." If only I had that problem too! We started the prescription this morning and I am going to guess that its working to increase their appetite but unfortunately instead of ravenous eaters, I have two cranky, beyond hungry little boys that don't want to eat because their bellies hurt. This could certainly create an intersting cycle that could work to our disadvantage!

So we are back at square one with eating. I unfortunately I have put a lot of stress on myself and dread meal times but I am hopeful that this is only a short lived phase. I am back on track spending all of my free times and their naps baking, cooking and doing research online for healthy weight gain in toddlers and am open to any suggestions that our readers may have. I feel a bit frustrated that we have gone from one extreme to another with feeding suggestions coming from different OT's and different pediatricians but we know that the bottom line is that an 18 month old should not be 18 pounds. So please keep Chris and Aiden in your thoughts and prayers for good, consistent, healthy weight gain before their next check up in 3 months. I want to do everything that we can to make this attempt successful so we don't have to repeat all of the testing that they did previously on Chris. Heres to growing, puddgy little pigglets!!!!
