Our latest fixture. I am thinking maybe Cali wanted to check out the new TV? We came home from a play date this morning to find her sleeping on the mantle. Her peace only lasted until her managers, A & C yelled at her as soon as we got home demanding that she get down.
There are so many things that we forget about when we aren't in the moment. I was cleaning our medicine cabinet, ever so thankful that I can't remember the last time we were sick! Unless of course if you decide to consider the lovely bug bite that I was blessed with on Saturday something worthy. That stinky bugt landed itself smack dab in the corner of my eye leaving me with an eye swollen shut the following day! That was a fun Mother's day surprise. Bring on the warm weather. I am in love! The bugs… well, can we put them on hold please? If only having good manners worked for me the way it works for A & C.
So we have exciting and surprising news. Mike has had a long week at work with late nights and early mornings and I have had many late night wonders. The surprise topping the charts was when I went in for my 3rd "good night" (I know, I am a softie going in 3 times…) last night and found one crib empty! One little daring monkey chose to hoist himself from his crib to his brother's crib. Yes, we are in trouble. Christopher monkey has stepped it up and Mommy is being challenged! Hard not to laugh and so easy to count my blessings as no one got hurt. Phew… for now at least.
To top off our newly discovered skills last night, we woke up to find Chris's diaper was down around his ankles. No biggie, right? My response, well let's get dressed quickly and get a new diaper. So, he picked out his shirt and socks while I ran down to the clean laundry pile in the basement. (Ran…. as in was gone for 10 seconds.) I came back upstairs with two loads of laundry and found that I was locked in the basement. I was outsmarted by my two year olds! Again…. Luckily, Mike was still home but was in the shower getting ready. After trying to coach the boys to get unlock the door without success I tried to convince them to get Daddy (the entire conversation happening through our 8 inch kitty door). Finally, Daddy came to the rescue and we were ready to start our day. Never a dull moment. Reinforcement please. I think I'm in trouble already!
So aside for our excitement, we've had a great week. We met our friends Mathieu and Caroline at the park on Monday and had a great time running around. It's so nice supervising rather than constantly entertaining the kiddos at this age. Caroline and I actually stand a chance at having a decent conversation. We headed home for lunch and naps and after nap, Dziadzu came over to watch Aiden and Chris while I headed for my tooth follow up. A & C had a blast playing outside and enjoyed playing ice cream shop with Dziadzu and swinging on the swings. They are terrific at playing pretend. Thank you Dziadzu! The surgeon said I am healing great and didn't have any concerns! Woo hoo.. Next step for my tooth is to win the lottery and/or save and finish up the procedure next year. I was hopeful the tooth extraction could boost my summer weight loss efforts but no such luck. Daddy worked late so we tried to spend as much time outside to tire out the boys before bedtime. A &C were great helpers, helping me water all of my newly planted flowers. This has become a part of our new daily routine and they take their jobs seriously.
Tuesday Mike had an all-day conference for work so I was able to spend some time with the boys and Mamie before heading out to work on my case status updates for Mike. Aiden and Chris loved their time with Mamie and as always, Mamie gave them a great report. They loved being outside and also enjoyed some time inside with play dough. After naps, the boys and I headed for a walk to see the fire trucks and continued on to the elementary school to play on the playground. A & C were lucky to meet two new older friends that were totally taken by them. Total fascination on both ends. The bigger kiddos couldn't get over the fact that the boys were so little and could talk. They were also unsure about having two kids that looked exactly the same. Although their new friends were 4 and 5, they played really well together and were holding hands by the end. I was hopeful that all of the boy's time outside would make for an easier bedtime but as you can tell from my opening story, they apparently saved a bunch of energy for their late night climbing adventures!
This morning we headed to our friends Calvin's for a play date and were also happy to see baby Ashley who was away last week. The boys love new toys and kept themselves very occupied. Poor Calvin was tuckered out and missed some fun while he was napping and we missed him but it was still fun for all! Today is Mike's last day of his work conference and we will be so excited to get back to our normal routine. Well for a day at least. Friday Mike and I leave for our weekend away to Maine to celebrate my 25th birthday. I cannot wait and am hopeful that Maine's weather forecast for "uncertain" weather will decided to turn into certainly lovely sunny days. Chris and Aiden will be staying with Mamie and Grandpa Hopkins and are very excited for their sleepover. I am excited not for sleeping in, but for being able to stay in bed…. for as long as I want… with nothing… nothing… nothing to do…. except maybe eat Congdon's amazing donuts!
