Today was the annual Suffield Firemen’s 5K race and I am pleased to say that we participated in our first race as a family.  We had intentions of walking the course but the enthusiasm of the participants around us gave us the motivation to run more than half of the race.  I have to say that I am super proud of Mike who hasn’t run in weeks.  I had no reason not to run except that I was enjoying the company of my boys but I will tell you that once I got started, my competitive side kicked in out of now where and I found myself wanting to continue to pass each group that was in my lead.  It was a good kick start and gave me some much need confidence in trail running.  Hopefully we may just find ourselves in the same place next year at this time or perhaps a few spots closer to the front….

We are excited to share that you may not recognize our living room if you visit after Wednesday.  We finally saved and splurged for a new living room set and we couldn’t be any more excited.  I think we’ve been talking about ditching our 30 year old couches for a few years now and the time has finally arrived.  We still kept in mind that we have the kiddos and decided on a set from Ikea with some awesome washable slip covers.  They have been ordered for 3 weeks and now its just the waiting game for delivery day.  In the meantime, our living room is “naked” as Aiden and Chris are saying.

Other exciting news…. Chris and Aiden now have big boy beds and we await their new mattresses with the delivery on Wednesday.  They are loving them and still adjusting and of course full of every excuse as to why they still can’t go to bed.

Yesterday we were thrilled to take a road trip to visit Auntie Laura in Worcester.  We loved seeing all that she has done with her place, they are busy beavers and we always look forward to our time with them.  We then headed to Millis, Ma to celebrate our friend Connor turning two.  Despite the rain, he had an awesome Thomas the Train party and Aiden and Chris loved the excitement of it all and the new friends they met.

Friday we had a fun play date with 6 moms and their kiddos.  It’s always crazy with large numbers but always so much fun as someone always has someone else to play with.  What’s better than sunshine, friends, playgrounds and lots and lots of dirt? Later that afternoon we headed over to Mamie and Grandpa’s and enjoyed some snuggles with my adorable nieces before heading out to dinner with a few co-workers of Mike’s.  We had a fun night listening to stories and Aiden and Chris enjoyed their sleepover in Southwick.

I love my conversations with Aiden and Chris as they continue to explore the world around them.  This week while driving they were talking about what they want to be when they grow up.  Aiden wants to own a construction company and Chris who typically replies that he wants to be a farmer mixed it up this week and decided he wants to own a hot fudge shop.  I hear there is big money to be made there!  They then piped up and said “Mommy, what do you want to be when you grow up?”  I asked them when I would be grown up and they told me when I was three.  I’m good with that and am so thankful that I have plenty of time to think about my career options.

PS – We got our first two tomatoes from the garden today.  Aiden enjoyed them both! Nothing better than fresh, organic veggies early in the season.  Love that….
