(L to R: Chris; Aiden; Chris and Mike)
With plans of carving pumpkins yesterday and a “to-do” list that just barely got done, the usual blog post got moved to the bottom of the list. After all, I figured it would be much more fun with pumpkin carving pictures to post!
I am a routine person. A planner, a organizer and Mike would probably be likely to call me rigid at times. As such, 4 days home with the boys with NO school are throwing us all for a loop. Thursday when I picked the boys up from school and they brought home their usual Friday paperwork, I was a bit confused. I was ever to thankful that I checked the school calendar to discover that it was a professional development day before making the hike to Hartford Friday morning! Phew…I saved myself a morning of frustration. It was great staying in comfy clothes all day {although I must admit this has become the norm for me!} After about 4 hours, we weren’t quite sure what to do with ourselves so we were so grateful for the play date we had scheduled to break up the day! I don’t know if it’s the impending gloomy weather, off kilter routine or perhaps just the tail end of the “3’s” but we’ve been dealing with some moody boys….. I’m hoping that both Hurricane Sandy and their hurricane moods both pass quickly and that we all survive safe and sound!
We had great weekend despite the challenging moods. Mike and I were super productive and we enjoyed an awesome visit with our friends the Locke’s. We were thrilled to get out for a family hike with them before this week of rain begins. It is always so nice seeing the kiddos together and we always have plenty to catch up on. A much anticipated day for all!
Yesterday we went to church, did some storm “prep” and went to our small group at night. We expected to wake up this morning to the heavy rains and winds but seem clear so far. I’m staying on top of my laundry, dishes and all things cleaning. There is nothing worse then going into a possible power outage with a gross, dirty house.
I forgot to share our cute story from last week. While Mike was away, the boys and I were downstairs playing in the playroom. Aiden told me he saw a mouse and I quickly reassured him that it was probably just the cat {maybe I was reassuring myself too a bit!} No sooner did I say that, did our furry friend appear again and Aiden was indeed correct. He was quite friendly. More friendly than any of us would have preferred. He ran around us and hoped into the drivers seat of one of the kids Fisher Price buses. I felt like we were living in a Stuart Little movie. Cali was carefree and enjoying the show, and I was frozen, not sure what to do. As the mouse snuck away, we headed upstairs and I reassured the boys {and myself!} that mice are just as scared of us as we are of them… As we talked about why mice move into homes in the winter, Aiden asked “Mommy, do you think God put the mouse in our house?” {He’s has a slight fascination with God lately}. I reminded him that God makes all creatures great and small and probably thought the mouse needed a cozy place to warm up. Chris chimed saying “God sure is going to get in trouble for that one, isn’t he Mom?!?” If only my punishments held any kind of power!
This weekend is the start of week 15 for the little one. We are 3/8ths through the pregnancy. Yippee!! I have no plans to rush any of it {just in case it is our last} and while we’re excited to meet the little one, we are ready to enjoy the experience and our alone time with A & C. As the tech told us at our ultrasound, we have a wiggly little one {do any fetuses really not wiggly???} and I felt the “flutters” for the first time this past week. Had this been my first rodeo, I would have written it off but I was too excited and had to share!
PS – Those are our German Shepard and Border Collie pumpkin carving attempts. The boys don’t believe in taking it easy on their old folks when it comes to Halloween expectations.
