Gratitude

While we shouldn’t need reminders to know how very blessed we are, the truth is that in our busy lives, we are quick to forget; quick to take for granted.  Monday’s tragedy yet another reminder of the short lives that we live and how very much we have to be grateful for.  Today is a gift and for that I am grateful.  The sun is shining and I am blessed beyond belief.  This morning as I walked through Elizabeth Park in Hartford, I stopped to enjoy smell of fresh cut grass;  bird chirping; the colorful blooms beginning to open and the sights and sounds of the people around me; one elderly woman, looking lonesome; one deaf gentleman who stopped to point to my belly and gesture rocking a baby in a cradle; and the squeals of new love as a teenage couple chased one another, embraced for longer than most of us converse with our spouses and flirted in a way that still seemed fresh and new.   Today I count my blessings and pray for those less fortunate.

As the days seem long and the waiting game continues until this little guy decides to show, I am continuing to enjoy my little boys that are all too quickly growing into little men.  Their logic, reasoning and sense of humor leave me speechless.  I am a proud Momma.  One that is proud to live in the family, state and country that we do.

Our week has been quiet.  Life seems to be at a stand still until this baby appears.  Chris and Aiden have been great sports, commenting that its “taken 6 years for our baby to come.”  It’s been school as usual and Tuesday the boys had the pleasure of their special day with Mamie.  They have come to anticipate and count down until a Mamie day.  Nothing beats some special one on one time with a lunch date and lots of playing!  I snuck out for my 39 week appointment.  39 weeks.  Time has flown but these last few weeks seem endless.  I am also most grateful for Mamies willingness to take my big boys this week as I sat on the exam table, half dressed, waiting for the Dr. for over an hour.  I can’t imagine how it would have gone down had I had them with me to entertain, especially given that I was getting bored and impatient myself.  My progress is slow as I am only 2 cm dilated but everything else is in check.  He’s a happy camper and will come sooner or later. According to my calculations, if he continues to progress at 1/2 cm a week, he should be here in 16 weeks.  Could make for a long summer :)

Today I was thrilled to air dry laundry for the first time this season.  Nothing beats it! I did some grilling for dinner, yes, me {all by myself} and we packed a picnic dinner and headed for a walk and our first ice cream treats of the year.  How spoiled are we that we have that option?!?  Here’s to spring, sunshine and all that we have to be thankful for!
