2 Weeks

My lil Jake is two weeks old today and if you ask me, that deserves a special post. Perhaps I should be saying two weeks young but I truly can’t believe that two weeks have already passed.  Over the past week he has started spending a lot more time showing us his beautiful blue eyes; making all kinds of calming and silly baby noises and of course filling up many, many dirty diapers.  He loves to admire peoples faces and is beginning to recognize familiar voices, especially those of his two main squeezes, Aiden and Chris.  My voice has quickly become associated with making bird like pucker faces, always looking for food.  He truly is a sweet, gentle, cuddly little baby and we are so blessed to have him join our family.  While only two weeks have passed, its hard to imagine our lives without him.

Sleep is overrated and it is a joy to have someone special to keep me company during our many waking moments each night.  Jake is eating about every 3 hours (feedings last between 20 and 40 minutes) and I find that I have to pump once or twice through the day and once or twice at night.  Mike and I are taking “shifts” cuddling and keeping an eye on Jake throughout the night and both enjoying our cuddle time and one on one with our little man.  Coffee has become a necessity {and is guzzled {as in I could probably win any chugging contest!} before heading out to bring the boys to school bright and early} and I look forward to bedtime more than ever.  It’s amazing the silly things you find yourself saying and doing when getting enough sleep isn’t on the agenda.

Jacob is an eating machine.  At his one week check up last Wednesday, he had maintained the weight that he was discharged at, 6 pounds 8 ounces (12th%) and was 20 inches long (53%) and BMI of 11.4.  Our little champ returned yesterday morning for a 2 week visit (after being sick for a few days) and is now 7 pounds, 2 ounces… a 10 ounce gain!  Now that is a feat for this family given how difficult weight gain was for A & C!  I was one proud Momma!  We return again in 2 weeks and are hopefully for another successful visit.

Here is some brotherly love…  Jake is certainly lucky to have two big brothers who awfully fond of him!
