I know most of you are familiar with the Dixie Chicks… well… good news! Real-life sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire (two-thirds of Dixie Chicks) are back collaborating as the Court Yard Hounds.
In 2010 this dynamic duo released their self-titles debut, Court Yard Hounds and are now back in the studio with the release of Amelita. The Court Yard Hounds are set to embark on a US tour, kicking off with Lollapalooza in August.
I was lucky enough to preview this album for a review and I have to say that my favorite new tune is Sunshine. Their lyrics are completely relatable and the stories in the music are captivating. The album Amelita is fun, upbeat and a great combo of a jazzy, country, upbeat style. Containing 11 new tracks, Robison and Maguire took a different approach with Amelita than their debut album in 2010. This album contains a new perspective, which is due in part to time passed since Robison’s divorce. “I’ve been freed of all of those time-heals-everything kind of things,” says Robison. “Now, I’ve opened up to other ideas and ways of looking at life and the world. I think it’s not only a more hopeful album, but it’s more… well fun. The Court Yard Hounds’ new album is a clear statement of who the girls are as artists, defining their sound as a band, with soaring songs that are personal, yet familiar and widely relatable.
