Celebrating Mom - A step back in time.

During my blogging absence I failed to share a moment worth remembering.  And now, backing up a bit, my mom celebrated 60 sweet years of life.  With Dan and his girl friend Mary Beth home for a belated holiday and birthday celebration and the rest of our immediate family in tow, we had a intimate, memorable celebration.  As wedding mode slowed down, we began to focus our attention on the next big event.  Rallying those close to us, we reached out to family and friends and gathered together 60 special memories, wishes and notes for our Mom.  The plan was for each note to be attached to a balloon and in place of having a room full of people {of which Mom has asked not too!}, we would have a room full of love and sweet wishes from those special to her.  Well, it was a success but not without a story of course!

With 63 balloons {not trying to age her just trying to account for mishaps!} ordered ahead, Mike forged out to get them early on the Saturday morning of the celebration in late November.  We had arranged to borrow my Dad’s truck with an enclosed bed to transport all of the balloons.  Mike wasn’t gone long before returning home to inform me that the truck brakes had completely “gone” on his way home and there was no way the truck was safe to drive from CT to MA.  So…. we now had a truck bed full of balloons, many wonderful messages and no way to deliver them.  If we’re being honest, I told Mike he had no choice and had to find a way to drive the truck.  My plans could not be foiled… not after this much planning and everyone’s special involvement.  I eventually came to my senses when Mike informed me that I could be risking life as a widower.  Without much choice, Mike’s Honda Accord soon became the new transporter of 63 mylar balloons.  It was a sight to be seen and I may have been found chuckling to myself as Mike followed the boys and I {who were in the CRV with a trunk loaded with presents and Thanksgiving/Birthday dinner}.  As we came to a stop sign, it was Mike versus the balloons.  For each balloon he attempted to shuffle to the side, 3 more filled the void.  Chuckle worthy I tell ya!

The good news is that we made it.  The best news is that it was a total surprise and Mom was thrilled!  It was the perfect little celebration for one amazing, well deserving lady! We love you Mom and were so excited to have a reason to celebrate you, who you are and all that you mean to everyone around you!

Happy, happy belated birthday!

And here’s the gang that was there to celebrate….Dec 1-9, 2013 352
