Reminders

Who doesn’t love and need a good reminder every once in a while?

While listening to the radio this morning on our drive into school the DJ was talking about the importance of teaching children patience noting that we live in a world of instant gratification.  When it happens ever so gradually, we tend not to notice.  How many have forgetten what it was like to go to the store but once a week as there was only one store and it was a 25 minute drive. Fast forward twenty years {jeepers that makes me old.  Really old!}  Throw the internet in the mix and you can now have just about anything you can imagine delivered…. to your door step…. tomorrow.

Have you found yourself wondering something, only to pull out your phone, tablet or laptop and have the answer at your fingertips within seconds?  Remember the good ‘ol days where we had those heavy reference books called encyclopedias and dictionaries?  Taking the time to flip to the back of a book to reference that little list called an index?

Life is convenient.  We have all grown so dependent.  We all want the best for our kids but sometimes we don’t even realize what they could be missing. We don’t realize how the many conveniences have changed our day to day lives.  I want my kids to know patience.  I want my kids to know hard work.  I want my kids to know and appreciate just how lucky they are!  No, I’m not going out to buy a set of encyclopedia’s {I’m pretty sure the stores would pay YOU to take them off their hands these days} but I am going to remember to set an example.  To be thankful for the little things and express it regularly.  To stop to make a conscientious effort to show patience and appreciation…. after all, we have it good. Oh so good!

Everything happens for a reason.

I turned on the radio at just the right time.

I needed that reminder.

Happy Thursday!
