Today was Mike's first Fathers Day! We unfortunately weren't able to honor his only request... for a bike ride... bummer! This weather has been so disappointing but we did promise Daddy a rain check for a day when there are sunnier skies! Mike's special treats for the day were a Dunkin D's coffee and donut when he woke up and a new bike seat and Red Sox hat (I figured Aunt Martha would appreciate the fact that this was preplanned well before the dirty hat incident with the boys!)
I also decided to surprise Mike with chicken parm for dinner... what a surprise it was! Mike has been spending his free time after the boys go to bed doing woodworking. I suggested that he take some time while Aiden was sleeping and Chris was with me in a front pack to work on his projects and he was happy to oblige. It was not even five minutes into his "hobby time" that he was forced to book it up the cellar stairs to put out a fire that I started on the stove top.. oops! I was boiling water and without my knowledge, there was something cooking on the burner that burst into flames in no time flat. Thankfully for as much as my gut instinct was to jump over and put the fire out myself, I remembered that I had a baby with me and decided to let Daddy save the day. What a fun mess to clean up! I think it may be time, or rather a necessity that we invest in new burner covers.
While on the topic of messes, Cali decided to journey into the great outdoors AGAIN today! We failed as pet parents yet again.... It took us about 4 hours and a pretty serious rainstorm to realize she was missing. Even despite the rain, she was still thrilled to be outside and less than pleased to find Mike chasing her..... If it wasn't for her pure white coat, it would be like trying to find a needle in a hay stack because she certainly doesn't have any desire to be "rescued!" I opted out of a flea bath and instead choose a topical treatment with a really good brushing! Who could ask for a better way to spend an evening?!? I guess it was the luck of the draw being Father's Day that the task fell onto my plate :)
Auntie Laura is coming to live with us for a few months as she starts a new job at Hartford Hospital and settles into the area. We are very excited to have her company and her speech language pathology skills will be an added bonus for the boys....I bet she didn't know she what she was signing up for when she decided to stay in our guest bedroom! Laura and Tommy moved a few of her things in today so it was great to be able to visit with them!
Back tracking a bit, we had a great week. We are still on hold with news from AIG (maybe this week?) and my maternity leave is in it's final stages so we have been taking advantage of any time that we can to visit with family and friends.
In my blog earlier this week, I neglected to mention that the boys met Chris and Kayla Auffrey on Monday night. It was Mike's night "off" so we packed up and headed over to my parents. We had a great visit and the boys really had an eye for Chris! They were also thrilled to see Grammie and Dziadz Pt. and GG Mimi.
Thursday night we had a great visit with Leeanne and Lori. The boys loved the attention and we really enjoyed the company! On Friday we had a playdate with Sophia and Annie. We got a preview of a morning in the life of a one year old and again were thankful that the "active" stage is something that you ease into... Friday afternoon Auntie Steph and Uncle Andrew came over and were quite entertained by Aiden and Chris. The boys were in a chatty mood and were ready to visit!
Yesterday morning Auntie Sarah and Uncle Jerry came over to see Aiden and Chris and to help Mike make some final decisions on the kitchen table that he has been busy making. Sarah and Jerry were married last November so the table is coming as part of a very belated present. Mike is busting his butt to get the table done before the one year mark! Following our visit with Sarah and Jerry we headed to Grammie and Dzaidz Pt.'s for the afternoon. Mike and Dziadz did some work around the house before the rain set in while Grammie, GG Mimi, the boys and I visited. I sound like a broken record but again, we had a great time and a great day!
Our visitors this week were: Grammie/Dziadz Pt., GG Mimi, Caroline/Mathieu, Chris/Kayla, Leeanne/Lori, Auntie Steph, Uncle Andrew, Auntie Sarah/Uncle Jerry, Annie/Sophia, Auntie Laura/Uncle Tommy.
