To the left are our little puppy dogs who got to dress up on Friday to visit Daddy at work and participate in a Halloween parade at a nursing home in Granby, CT.
At the Halloween parade with our friends Annie, Charlotte, Baby Ashley, Chris and Aiden.
This week has given so many New Englanders a new appreciate for the simple things in life. It doesn’t take much to realize how truly dependent we have all become on technology and the conveniences of our everyday lives…. BUT 5 nights and 6 days without power quickly bring this fact to the forefront of your mind. I am grateful to have such an amazing group of family and friends who all rallied together to make a less than perfect situation so much more bearable. I was amazed by peoples thoughtfulness and generosity through it all and again thank God for putting such wonderful people in our paths.
Left: Chris in front of his very own BIG snowball and proud as can be!
Middle: Aiden checking out the tree damage to our poor dogwood and magnolia which don’t look like they enjoyed the storm very much!
Right: Chris and Daddy – snowball in the works
So yes, we were pummeled by nearly one foot of snow with which electricity decided to take a vacation for a week. We cozied up, spent time with family and friends and enjoy some quiet family days. Without the internet, Mike wasn’t able to work until Friday so A, C and I loved having Daddy around. We “camped out” by our fireplace, cozing up to sleep in the same room, hoping the temp wouldn’t drop below 50. You don’t appreciate heat until you have to get up every hour through the night to feed the fire. Chris summed it up well when he woke up grumpy Thursday stating that “his happy’s were broken!” He wasn’t alone. Gasoline shortages, forced family fun, reading by candle light, trash bags full of wasted food, cold temps, cancelled trick-or-treating and less than appetizing meals took a toll on the best of us. But today we have power and we are oh so grateful!
We spent our weekend catching up on chores, visiting with family and cleaning our yard. Thanks to mother nature, my face is now being taken over my poison ivy, compliments of hauling our brush out on Sunday. Anyone have any good tips? The traditional Ivy Dry, Sarno lotion, Benadryl and such don’t seem to be cutting it. Halloween may have been cancelled but I good spirits, this Mommy is dressed up as a Blimp anyways! Cheapest costume ever!
Left: I love the adoring looks in each others eyes. It certainly helps keep things in perspective when the rest of the world and room seems COLD!
Middle; Aiden and Chris were getting creative with their sleeping quarters! And no, we didn’t really let them bunk in our cabinets although it would have probably been warmer in there!
Right: C & A enjoying marshmallow eye ball lollypops from our neighbor, Mr. Bill. Can you tell they were excited about them?
What a perfect week to enjoy staying cozy, listening to Christmas music, dreaming about all of the things you want to get done when the power returns!
On a side note, congratulations to our friends Elliot, Emme, Karen and Jeff Ryan who welcomed baby Oliver this weekend. What a perfect way to end a storm!
A belated congratulations to Mathieu, Caroline and Rob who welcomed baby Alexander 2 weeks ago.
We can’t wait to meet them and enjoy some snuggle time!

Great pics...except why is Chris wearing a NY Jets hat? That hat must go!
The great thing about that comment Dan is that I was reading the blog thinking "oh great, Beth put Jet's hat pictures up, Dan reads this blog, he's gonna be pissed." Low and behold, your comment was already up. We'll have a burning party this summer. It's a long story why I have the hat, but it was the choice between frost bite or a Jets hat one day at the meadow lands.
