No doubt, it was in the blink of an eye that our little man turned 6 months old! Happy 6 months to our littlest peanut, Jacob Michael Our world is fuller and journey brighter with you by our side.
You might be wondering what tricks Jake has been up to, well let me fill you in.
This lil guy can sit up unassisted until he finds himself unable to control the urge to reach for his brother or another tempting treat, in which time he completely topples over, stiff as a board. He is a baby of many laughs and still thinks that his brothers are the funniest thing going. His favorite thing to laugh at it is quick motions {ie Aiden and Chris running by furiously; a ball thrown up and down; family dance parties.} His eye is always caught by the cat who he seems to love {watch out Cali, it may have been 4 years but I’m sure you haven’t forgotten the tail pulling, kitty chasing stage!} Despite having no teeth, he can’t seem to stuff enough toys in his mouth at once. He drools like crazy and loves to gnaw on fingers, shoulders, noses, you make it, he’s not particular. He is undecided whether he prefers his fingers or a binky and does just fine without either. While it was just yesterday that he was nestling into our chests, fast asleep {gosh how I miss this already – anyone with a new baby for borrow?} he is now one heck of a snuggler with his snugglies {small, soft blankets with animal faces.} He is easy going provided he is in the company of others and despises being alone.
Jake started solid food about 3 weeks ago, prunes first {for obvious digestive reasons!}, then sweet peas, carrots and now a whole slue of things. He is messy. Super messy {I somehow erased this stage from my mind but have been quickly reminded about the joys of the nightly clean up routine} He loves his food and is doing great. Our pediatrician suggested starting with meats and skipping lower fat fruits and veggies. His favorite food by far is prunes or any soft fruit put into the mesh eater {life savers!} At the pediatrician's recommendation, we are aiming for higher fat foods to get more “bang for our buck” calorie wise and he seems to be cooperating. He’s tried avocados and while he didn’t love them, they were easily hidden by being dipped in prunes {what a lil old man, eh?} ….. And speaking of little old man, get a load of this. Like his brothers, he eats garlic hummus. I must admit that I hesitate as the garlic smell on his breath that lingers for days afterward kills any snuggability, even after countless J & J lavendar baths! We have also ventured into the world of yogurt and while he loved it, it didn’t agree with his poor little belly so we’re steering clear for a while. I have been quickly reminded of the days when I was left feeling guilty about not sharing my food simply the innocent stare, open mouth and sounds effects coming from a wee little one. I am thrilled to say that nursing is still going well. 6 months down and 6 to go with a goal to nurse for a year. Jake is an extremely distracted eater {can’t blame him with all of the four year old action in our house} and only eat on his terms and conditions but I will take that any day over pumping around the clock.
Jacob continues to be a tot of high energy. Always wide eyed, alert and ready to take it all in. As a result, sleeping suffers but on the bright side, he pulls of the “no sleep” thing like a champ. No black circles, good moods and plenty of smiles. I swear that if I didn’t know better, I would guess he’s sneaking caffeine. He’s been going to bed around 7 and up for the day at 7 with several visits through the night (on a good night, 2) and naps in the morning while A & C are in school for 1 1/2-2 hours. Mike and I are beginning to talks of “cry it out.” Being the one that gets up with him at night, I’m not sure why I’m putting up so much resistance. Maybe I like seeing his little face every few hours more than I realize. He truly is such a sweet little boy and its been wonderful to see the joy he brings to everyone in our family.
Happy 6 month birthday to one strong willed, irresistible little munchkin. We love you Jacob!
