Today my littlest love turns 8 months old. 8 months and while I can not believe it, I have come to admit the harsh reality that there will never be an instance where time passes slow enough. Sure I’m taking it all in and loving every minute but I came across a few birth pictures earlier this week and it was bittersweet. I long to have that moment back when we first met, when he first held my hand and when he first fell asleep on my chest. He’s growing up way too quick. We have a running joke in our house with the twins that Mommy will never allow them to grow up. They believe it to be true but are quick to remind me that they have Daddies permission so only Jakey can stay little forever. If only we could pause time for a moment.
So, back to Jake. He is an amazing little guy. He wins over the hearts of everyone that meets him, strangers included. I love how so many social barriers are removed when babies are involved. Jake and I are out and about daily. He meets more friendly strangers than I do and that says a lot! With the snowy weather, we have been heading to the mall to wait after dropping off the boys. I am proud to say that Jake has more friends at the mall than I do! He’s a socialite and I just love him to pieces. At 8 months he is chattering “Mama.” Mike believes it’s with intent, I happily oblige. Jake is crawling, although he has much more interest in wanting to spend time putting everything in his mouth. Oh the drool! He has been sleeping in his room for a bit over a month and he’s doing great. Maybe I am redefining “great” by choosing that word or perhaps I should clarify that he is doing just as well sleeping in his room as he was in ours. While I miss my roommate, it’s nice to not have to sneak into our own bedroom at night. He is still waking up every few hours though the night but I am just as much at fault as I’m not on board to have him cry it out… yet.
We were at the D.r’s this week for the little man as he has had an on going cold for quite some time and a cough that doesn’t seem to want to let up. Within the last week he has decided that he only wants to nurse on one side {I am sure any Mom that has nursed can appreciate just how thankful I am that it’s not bathing suite time!} We were concerned that it may be something with his ears when he spiked a fever but we thankful for a good report at the pediatrician's. We’re on day 3 of the fever and the poor little guy can’t seem to hold anything down today. Not the way to spend the first day of your 8th month. Mike and I have secretly been savoring every snuggly moment. While at the Dr.’s she did note that she sees no signs of teeth. I’m not one to complain. As far as I am concerned, those teeth can stay away just as long as they please, especially until I am done nursing {hoping to make it to the one year mark}. We will be back in January {and hopefully not any sooner} for his 9 month check up.
Can you believe that we have had four storms and it’s not even officially winter !?! I personally am ready to pack up and head south after the first few snow falls but I do have to admit that having children brings a whole new dimension to the white powder. Aiden and Chris are LOVING the snow. They lose sleep at night because of the anticipation of new snow. The storm yesterday brought about 5 inches and we drudged through to get to school, all hour and 15 minutes of the drive. This morning was a repeat. It took me an hour and forty-five minutes to drop them off today, compliments of a bus driver who thought he could plow through a snow bank {with a bus load of kids} only to discover that he was not only stuck but was also blocking not one but both lanes of traffic…. so we waited and waited and waited. The true test of patience with kids in your presence!
The snow last week left us cozy at home. Mike’s work party was cancelled because of the blast last Saturday night. Instead of fancing up and heading out, we bunkered down in our warm sweats. It was perfect! Sunday we enjoyed a Christmas party with our small group from church. It’s always fun to have a reason to stuff our faces with yummy treats while we stand around and visit. After all, that’s what the holidays are all about, right?
Mike had last minute work travel on Monday night and I had made plans weeks ago with my girls friends for a night out so Grammie and Dziadzu came to our rescue! I had a blast being a first timer at a wine and canvas night at Bertucci’s in Longmeadow. You don’t have to be a painter {or a wine drinker} to have fun! It was so nice to see my girlfriends and so nice to be out for the night. Poor Jake was home sick and broke my heart. Grammie and Dziadzu were great sports keeping him comfortable while holding down the fort. Another first worth mentioning was Chris’s experiment with scissors that night. The incident may have involved his hair and may have left him wondering what everyone at school would think the next day. I think it’s safe to assume that he learned his lesson and hopefully there won’t be any more surprises… for a while at least!
I forgot to share a cute Chris story on my post last week. We have an elf on the shelf. His name is Elliot and he is quite a hit this year. Last week poor Elliot took a fall. An unnamed someone may have been playing with the curtain that he was holding onto. This unnamed individual may have accidentally knocked him to the ground. This same person may have been close to tears when he realized what happened. But… no fear…. We “called” Santa and got permission to bring Elliot to safety because after all, the rules state that you can not touch the elf or he looses his magic. So, the next day, while at the library program, Aiden quickly jumped in line to meet Santa. Chris was disinterested and headed toward the crafts. For someone who had a long list of wishes and questions for Santa, I was inquisitive. The poor little guy was afraid Santa was mad at him about the Elliot incident. Thankfully it didn’t take too much convincing to get him in line. After all, you only have so many chances to meet the real Santa.
And in keeping all things equal, I should share a cute Aiden story because it wouldn’t be fair to embarrass one and not the other. The boys love their PJ’s and are getting to be little jokesters {wonder where they get that from!?!} Aiden pulls his PJ bottoms well above his belly button and comes out of his room saying “who am I?” Unsure of where this was going, I told him I didn’t know. His reply “Steve Snurkel {aka Steve Urkel}. ” I love my kids!
Happy week before Christmas everyone! Anyone else ready to ask for an extension on Christmas? I think I could be ready to sneak in a few more weeks of excitement and festive activities with the kiddos before the big day.
PS – I couldn’t help myself and I peeped the property on Boston Neck Road with the kids today. I am oh so happy to report that the house now has a good owner. One that has cozied the place up, complete with a large Christmas tree and Christmas candles in every window. All in a matter of 5 days. I couldn’t be happier. That house deserves a good owner and the charm deserves to be enjoyed!
