While I’m still struggling to catch up on my missed posts, I am loving being able to share our happy moments as they happen.
In keeping with tradition, Aiden and Chris were swept away today on a shopping adventure. Each year Mamie so generously allows Aiden and Chris to Christmas shop for Mike and I. The boys are always so excited and there are always stories to share and secrets that are hard to keep. Last year Chris came running in with beautifully wrapped presents, days before Christmas exclaiming “Mommy, I got you a doggie pin but the ear muffs are a surprise.” I guess he’s been putting the meaning of the word secret into better practice this year. Grandpa joined them on their journey today and they of course managed to sneak in a treat for themselves and a special lunch at Friendlies.
Mike and I enjoyed a quieter afternoon with Jake. Can you believe the first day of winter and we hit nearly 50 degrees?!? The weather was too good to pass up so we braved the mud and slush and went for a walk with our little man. It’s a strange feeling to be out and about but missing half of your family. We traveled light and quiet and had a productive afternoon catching up on some chores. Our poor little man is sick. It’s been going on over 3 weeks now. Yesterday makes three Dr.’s visits within 10 days. If you know me, you know that I am not that Mom. I HATE the Dr.’s and will do anything to avoid bringing my children or going myself. I just can’t seem to get this little guy better on his own. Earlier in the week I had him there, questioning his ears as he spiked a fever after having a cold for a few weeks. The ears were fine, the fever lasted 3 days, he vomited all day Wednesday and today was followed by a rash. Rash’s are rotten. Thinking it looked like Roseola but wanting confirmation and some answers before Christmas and possible exposure to other kiddos, I brought him in this morning. Just a typical dreamy way to spend a Saturday morning. We of course left with no answers and a little man who continued to act out of sorts all day. Thankfully he’s not contagious unless his fever comes back again. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a better night and a better day. He deserves it. The quieter Saturday was just what he needed. Just what we needed. Lucky Aiden and Chris for having such a fun tradition! I can’t wait to see what this year brings. Pretty presents and pleasant surprises!
