First Grade!

And here we are…. at the final day of the first week of school with two super cool, super excited FIRST graders!  I can recall during the routine days and sleepless nights when the twins were infants, others with twins would often say, “wait until they turn two… life gets so much easier then.”  And so we anxiously waited.  At times if felt like we’d never make it to age two.  Now, looking back, I swear that was just yesterday.  Heck, most days I’m still adjusting to the idea that I’m a grownup.  There’s truth in the old saying that while the days may seem long at times, the weeks, months and years fly by.  Never will I ever get used to the fact that my oldest are in grade school!

So here they are in all, all grown up and oh so handsome.

PS – No, we did not paint the house pink… We will assume it’s from the reflection of red skies in the morning Smile

Jake was not to be left out.  Our first day alone was Jake’s day of choice.  We left early and enjoyed a fritter on the porch of Mrs. Murphy’s greeting each guest as they entered the store.  With a full belly and sugar high, we headed to Stanley Park where we fed the ducks, hiked from one side of the park to the other and back again, searching for fish, playing on the playground and throwing coins into the wishing well.  While heading home, he chattered the whole way.  Not a quiet moment and many inquiries about where “Aiden brothers (a.k.a. Aiden and Chris)” were. Gazing out the window in the backseat, he spotted Lake Congamond and said “Momma, we go there sometime.”  Spinning the car around, he screeched in joy as I suggest “what about now?”  He enjoyed his peanut butter and fluff on the fishing pier, watching two teenagers fish.  It’s so fun to just watch and allow him just to be him.  All too often, he’s mixed in the shuffle of busy older brothers, acting way too mature for a two year old.  It’s about time we make time for these outings more often.  One thing is certain, in the blink of an eye, he too will be off to show the world the amazing boy he’s growing to be.

Aiden and Chris jumped happily off the school bus, all excited about their day.  They both have the “best teachers” and are truly in love with learning {if only we could freeze time!}.  They want to practice reading, they love to write and they get excited when challenged with math problems.  Smart doobies indeed.  Their ultimate treat this week was a pizza and movie night with our neighbor, Ben last night and hot lunch today.  Yes, in their minds, hot lunch is a treat.  Not sure I will ever understand but I’ve agreed to first Friday of the month treat of hot lunch.
